Write for us
We welcome clear, original pitches that help readers notice how a film works. Send proposals through the Contact page; a concise note is more useful than a finished article sent without context.
What to pitch
We consider essays and explainers on screen language, including framing, editing, sound, performance and story structure. A strong proposal centres on one focused question, explains what a reader will understand by the end and names the film examples needed to make the idea clear.
What makes a good contribution
Use plain, precise language and support factual details with sources readers could check. Make room for ambiguity where a film permits more than one reading. Avoid plot summary that does not serve the argument, unsupported claims about intention and pitches built around praise or attack alone.
How to send a proposal
Use the Contact page and select the editorial question option. Include a working title, a short outline, relevant experience if it helps explain the pitch, and a note about any commercial or personal connection to the subject. Do not send confidential material or assume a proposal has been accepted.
Close attention makes films richer
Film choices shape what we notice, expect and feel. We explain those choices in clear language, leaving room for viewers to reach their own readings.
